Belmort

As the cool, salty water closes in over her head, she welcomes the quiet solitude and gentle motion of the world she dives into. The beautiful magnitude of the reef surrounds her, how she wishes she could stay here forever. The textures, the colors, the glory. At first the absence of gravity and then the heaviness of it pulling her towards the ocean floor. Her feet become rooted to the reef as her wish comes true. A drifting metal cage hangs on to her form, its metal turning salty white with time. The waste of human life catches on the wire with the current. And yet more time and the corals decide she is a part of their world, they multiply all over this new shape in their midst. She watches while ocean life first thrives around her, then on her and then within. She doesn’t move and she watches while the movement of creatures become less and the colors bleed.

All becomes even stiller in this already still world.
She feels the push and pull of the water and still watches, amazed how the beauty of before has changed.
The colors have departed and the shapes have stayed,
locked in a beautiful death.
