`As you peer through the looking-glass
The wilted weight lies heavy on her head
And the dewy newness rests in her arms
Unseen by many
The spirit of the tree´
Ve Kessen is a Carthage-born German interdisciplinary artist who has spent most of her life living in Kenya and Mauritius and is now based in Munich, Germany.
Her work and artistic style are strongly influenced by her academic background in sociology, as she works at the intersection of climate justice, womanism, and cultural awareness. In her multi-layered work, she draws from her Indian, East African, and German ancestry, filling in the blanks left behind by colonialism through in-depth academic research and her unique translation of re-discovered knowledge into visual art.
A visual storyteller, tinkerer, and seeker of knowledge, she strives to illuminate awareness about our shifting climate change and its connection to the role of women of Color in our society.
Ve’s work consciously engages to be an active and driving force in the field of eco-feminism and social activism and aims to spark contemporary conversations that are vital for the wave of social change we are experiencing in our world today.
